> ResearchingResearchingDoing your research early and doing it well is essential to win the college application game. For many colleges, admission applications must be completed in September or October of your senior year. So you need to begin your research way before that. Start checking things out at the beginning of your junior year so that you have plenty of time to narrow down your list of possible colleges. Start by searching for colleges on the Internet that meet your criteria: by sport, location, major…whatever you have determined is important to you. Every college has a Website; use it to get the information that you need. While you’re on the Internet, visit the EducationPlanner Website. EducationPlanner has a variety of valuable tools to assist you with your research and to help plan for college academically and financially. Stop by your high school guidance counselor’s office. You’ll find brochures, pamphlets, college reference books and more to help you with your research. Other good sources of information are college fairs. If your school won’t be holding one in the near future, ask your guidance counselor where to find one. You’ll be collecting a lot of information. It could get confusing really fast. Keep a good filing system as well as detailed notes about the colleges that you are interested in. Perhaps the most important piece of information that you need to keep track of is admissions deadlines. They will vary from one college to the next, and you certainly don’t want to miss one that you’re really interested in! |
