Arizona State University Athletics

Arizona State University is one of the premier metropolitan public research universities in the nation. Enrolling more than 57,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on three campuses in metropolitan Phoenix, ASU maintains a tradition of academic excellence in core disciplines, and has become an important global center for innovative interdisciplinary teaching and research. Recent Highlights:

  • Arizona State University junior gymnast Maggie Germaine has been named a second-team all-American on the floor exercise by the National Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches Association.

  • Baseball’s Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-3 and hit his school-record tying 30th double of the year as the No. 3 Arizona State Sun Devils opened up a three-game Pac-10 series with Oregon State.

  • Arizona State sophomore women's golfer Erin Tone was selected to participate in the seventh annual NCAA Leadership Conference being held May 25-29 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort and the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

  • The Arizona State men's basketball team has placed two players on the Pac-10 All-Academic Team this year. Junior Justin Allen and senior Shawn Redhage both earned the honor.

  • Three Sun Devils have been named to the 2003 Pac-10 Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic teams, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Thursday. Junior forward Jen Albert and sophomore guard Carrie Buckner were both named to the first team, marking the second time in school history and the second consecutive year that Arizona State has had two players earn first-team all-academic accolades. Sophomore guard Kylan Loney also earned honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic honors.

  • Amy Hastings, a freshman on the Arizona State cross country and track and field teams, placed third at the United State's 2003 Junior World Cross Country Team Trials Saturday, placing third in the six kilometer event.

  • Arizona State freshman men's golfer Alejandro Canizares has been named Pac-10 co-Freshman of the Year.

  • Arizona State University soccer players Amy LePeilbet and Manya Makoski were named to the U.S. Under-21 National Team roster for a four-game Brazil tour from May 15-26, 2003.

  • The 2003 ConocoPhillips Spring National Championships continued on Friday with day four of the competition, where Ágnes Kovács recorded a second place finish in the 100m breaststroke to lead the Sun Devils on the second to last day of the championships.

  • Arizona State University women's tennis player Adria Engel has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Player of the Month for April, the ITA announced Friday.

  • Eric Larkin Wins National Wrestling Championship, 10-8, Over Lawrence. The Sun Devil senior went undefeated to win first national title while being named Outstanding Wrestler.
