Barton College Athletics
Founded in 1902, Barton College is a fully accredited, four-year, private, co-educational, liberal arts college. Located in Wilson, NC, Barton welcomes approximately 1,300 students from 31 states and 16 foreign countries to a campus of 25 buildings on 65 acres.
Barton offers over 40 majors and programs are offered through the five academic schools: Arts and Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Business, Education, and Nursing. The major areas of study have a global focus, so students are assured of a high-quality academic program. Expanded travel opportunities and concentrated study are enhanced by Barton’s 4-1-4 semester system featuring the January Term.
With 77 full-time faculty members, Barton is able to recognize the importance of personalized attention for the students’ learning experience. With the low student to faculty ratio of 13:1, Barton’s professors are able to teach small classes and have the opportunity to meet and get to know their students as individuals.
The athletic teams at Barton College compete in the NCAA Division II and the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference.

Recent Highlights:
- The Barton College 2006-07 men's basketball team won the NCAA D-II National Championship. Barton, ranked 15th nationally, finished the season with a school-best 31-5 record while winning its last 21 games.
- Barton College Tennis has a storied tradition that has grown over 40 years. Known as Atlantic Christian College until 1990, the school has been a nationally competitive tennis program throughout it's history. Competing in both the NAIA (through 1992) and the NCAA Division II (1993-Present), Barton College has claimed two National Championships, more than two dozen conference titles, and qualified regularly for postseason play. Since moving from the East Region to the tough Mid-Atlantic in 2002, the program has regained it's place in the national ITA rankings each of the past two years.
- Led by five Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic selections, the 2006 Barton College women’s tennis team qualified as an ITA All-Academic team for the fourth consecutive year. The 2006 Lady Bulldogs posted a 15-11 overall record and finished third in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Tournament. Barton wound up 8-5 in CVAC matches and ended the year ranked No. 10 in the ITA Mid-Atlantic Region.
- Keauna Vinson and Brock Godwin of Barton College are the 2005-06 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Female and Male Athletes of the Year as voted on by the conference Athletics Directors. This prestigious award is presented annually to both a male and a female student-athlete in recognition of their outstanding athletic contributions and achievement.
