Boston University Athletics
Boston
University began as a Methodist seminary in 1839 in Vermont. The school
was transferred to New Hampshire in 1847 and to Boston in 1867. It is
now internationally recognized as a top institution of learning and
research. Throughout its history, Boston University has stayed true
to its founding mission of providing an excellent education and helping
students become valuable members of society. Our most famous and respected
alumnus, Martin Luther King, Jr., exemplifies the spirit of community
and innovation that pervades our campus.
Today roughly 18,000 undergraduate students attend BU. The student-to-faculty
ratio is 14:1. The average class size is 29 students. About 78 percent
of BU courses have between one and 30 students and 4 percent have more
than 100 students. Boston University has semester-long and academic-year
programs abroad. Internships are available in: Beijing, London, Madrid,
Moscow, Paris, Sydney, and Washington, D.C. Language and Liberal Arts
Programs are available in: Belize, France, Germany, England, Ecuador,
Israel, Italy, Niger, and Spain. Students are not limited to traveling
to these areas, however. They can use other study-abroad agencies and
resources to find other programs. Additionally, BU offers an honors
program and internship opportunities. Boston University offers major
and minor concentrations in more than 250 academic and preprofessional
fields of study. The liberal arts form the foundation of the educational
experience while the Schools and Colleges also advance professional
training and applied learning.
The athletic teams at Boston University compete in the NCAA Division
I America East, Hockey East and the Colonial Athletic Association.

Recent Highlights:
- A pair of B. U. senior student-athletes, softball's Kristin Knesek
and Liam Revell, a member of both the cross country and track teams,
were among 21 individual sport scholar-athletes announced by America
East.
- Junior runner Jochen Dieckfoss capped off an outstanding season
with a 44th place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championship Meet.
- Ice Hockey Junior forward Mark Mullen, who enjoyed his finest overall
season both offensively and defensively for the Terrier hockey team,
and First Team JOFA All-American defenseman Freddy Meyer were honored
on by the New England hockey writers, coaches, and officials.
- Sophomore Brian Conway, a two-year letterman for the Terrier soccer
team, has been named one of 302 student-athletes from around the nation
to attend the seventh annual NCAA Leadership Conference.
- Seniors Natalie Grant and Jochen Dieckfoss capped off outstanding
careers with Top 15 finishes at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
- Liam Revell, who excelled both in the classroom and on the track
for the Terrier cross country and indoor track teams, has been named
First Team District 1 Verizon Academic All-American.
- Katie Terhune, Marisa Moseley, and Rachel Werner were named to
the America East Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll after achieving
a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
- Freshman Jessica Iannacci finished first for the Terriers and 24th
overall to the lead the B.U. women's cross country team to a seventh-place
finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships.
- Terrier sophomores Caitlyn Cassara and Colleen McClay were selected
to attend the USFHA B-Camp. Additionally, former Terrier Robyn Kenney
was named to the U. S. Pan Am Team which will vie for a 2004 Olympic
bid at the Pan Am Games.
- Terrier sophomore goalkeeper Anne Sheridan was one of 24 players
selected to the U.S. Women's Lacrosse Developmental Team as announced
by US Lacrosse.
- The Terrier women's varsity heavyweight crew closed out its season
on Sunday, June 1, by finishing second in the third-level finals at
the NCAA Rowing Championships.B. U. won two elimination games over
Albany, claiming its second consecutive America East Softball Championship.
- Junior Lindsey Dynof was named the America East Women's Tennis Tournament's
Most Outstanding Performer.
