Case Western Reserve University Athletics

Located in Cleveland, Ohio, and ranked the top college in the state, Case Western Reserve University is home to 9,520 undergraduate and professional students. CWRU boasts an 8:1 student to teacher ratio, and the recently completed $29.5 million Kelvin Smith Library. Additional student services include Educational Support Services, Career Center, many minority programs and International Student Services.

CWRU offers more than sixty undergraduate majors and numerous minors, electives, double majors, and integrated studies programs. The athletic teams at Case Western Reserve University compete at the NCAA Division III level in the University Athletic Association.

Recent Highlights:

  • CWRU junior Alison Kendig won the National Championship in the 500 Freestyle swimming event.

  • CWRU junior Liz Badziong (Parma OH) recorded an All-American swim with a 16th place finish in the 400 yard individual medley (4:41.03), senior Lisa Gieseker became an All-American with her 8th place finish in the 1650 yard freestyle (17:23.82), and senior Meredith Stakem earned All-American honors with a 8th place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (52.27).

  • The Spartan women had three relay teams earn All-American status. The 400 yard medley relay team of freshman Hannah Webbe, sophomore Elaine Hillenmeyer, junior Kristen Prijatel, and Meredith Stakem finished 12th (4:02.88), the 800 yard freestyle relay team of Webber, Stakem, Alicia Kendig, and Liz Badziong finished 12th (7:50.77), and the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Stakem, Kendig, Hillenmeyer, and Prijatel finished 11th (3:35.42).

  • Case Western Reserve University sophomore wrestler Zak Kallai had a great freshman campaign a year ago, finishing 28-15 and being a national qualifier. He finished sixth at the NCAA Championships, earning him All-American honors in just his first season. Kallai also won his weight class at the University Athletic Association Championships, receiving All-Association honors, and he also was named UAA Newcomer of the Year.
