Colorado College Athletics

Colorado College, a four-year nationally prominent liberal arts & sciences college, enrolls 1,900 undergraduates. Founded in 1874 at the foot of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, CC is recognized for utilizing its unique location and flexible schedule-- the innovative Block Plan--in hands-on learning , offering small, seminar-style courses from the first year on, and preparing its graduates for varied careers as well as graduate and professional schools.

Colorado College is considered unique for its block plan scheduling, which is described as eight 3-1/2 week sessions, equivalent to four semester hours each. Students take only one course per block and professors teach only one course per block. Implemented in 1970, the Block Plan allows for intensive study with no interruptions from other academic obligations, extended laboratory and on-location fieldwork, and independent study. Disciplinary majors offered include Anthropology, Art (History; Studio), Biology, Chemistry, Classics, Dance, Drama, Economics (Business), English (Creative Writing; Film Studies), French, Geology, German, History, Mathematics (Computer Science), Music (Ethnomusicology), Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Religion, Russian, Sociology, and Spanish. Cooperative programs include the 3-2 Engineering program offered with Columbia University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University of Southern California, and Washington University; Army ROTC available through University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Approximately 55% of students study abroad before graduating. Sole sponsor of programs in France, Germany, Mexico, and Russia.
