Davidson College Athletics
Davidson College is a nationally recognized, highly selective independent liberal arts college located north of Charlotte, North Carolina in the town of Davidson. Davidson College is also just minutes away from Lake Norman's popular water sports, dining venues, and the college's 106-acre Lake Campus. The picturesque charm and excellent location of Davidson the town complement both the historic and contemporary aspects of Davidson the college.
Davidson College enrolls approximately 1,600 students. With an active Honor Code, a student/faculty ratio of 11:1, and athletic teams competitive in the NCAA Division I, Davidson College is an excellent choice for the student who seeks a vigorous undergraduate education in a residential environment. Davidson offers 20 major and 12 minor undergraduate programs of study, in addition to Interdisciplinary Studies.
Davidson College athletics offers nine varsity sports for women and 10 varsity sports for men. The athletic teams at Davidson compete in the NCAA Division I Southern Conference.

Recent Highlights:

The Southern Conference coaches and media both selected Davidson senior right-hander Brian Akin for their respective 2006 baseball All-Southern Conference second team. While Akin was the lone Wildcat on the coaches' team, three others were named to the media's second team -- junior shortsthop Eli Benefield, sophomore catcher Alex Entrekin and sophomore reliever Jay Heafner.

Davidson finished the 2006 baseball season 20-33 overall an 13-17 in the Southern Conference to place seventh. In the SoCon Tournament, the Wildcats won their first round game before faltering in the next two.

Davidson basketball head coach Bob McKillop was recently touted as the 2006 Southern Conference Coach of the Year according to CollegeInsider.com.

Senior Janell Crayton and juniors Jessica Mitchell and Tia Washington of the Davidson women's basketball team earned second-team honors when they were voted to the 2005-06 women's basketball North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division.

The Davidson College men's indoor and outdoor track & field teams were one of only 23 Division I teams to earn 2006 NCAA Men's All-Academic Team honors as announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). This past year, the Wildcats indoor and outdoor seasons were one of their best in recent school history. During the indoor season, Davidson finished in 5th place. Davidson carried that momentum into the outdoor season with a school-best finish of third place in the outdoor Southern Conference Championships, which topped the fifth place showing the Wildcats had back in 1957, ’69 and ’72.

Led by sophomore Brenna Burns, senior Allie Martin and sophomore Megal Atias, the 2005 Davidson women’s cross country team earned a one-point edge over defending Southern Conference champion Chattanooga on Sunday to capture its second league title in three years.

Senior Patrick Coman recorded a second place showing at 125 pounds and Matt Pendle (157) won his third place bout to lead Davidson College at the 2005-06 Southern Conference Wrestling Championships Saturday.

The Colonial Athletic Association has named Davidson senior Megan Hollar its Female Swimmer of the Year for the 2005-06 season. Hollar, who is the first Davidson swimmer ever to receive the yearly accolade, was also named Female Swimmer of the Meet at the league meet in February after she claimed titles in three individual events. Hollar set a new school and meet record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.30, becoming the first Wildcat to hold a CAA meet record. Her mark of 2:17.80 in the 200 breast was also fast enough for a new Davidson standard, while her winning time in the 200 IM was a speedy 2:06.32.
