Drake University Athletics
Drake is a private, fully accredited, coeducational university on a 120-acre campus in Des Moines, the capital and largest city in Iowa. Drake offers more than 75 undergraduate majors and many graduate programs in its six colleges and schools - Arts and Sciences, including Fine Arts; Business and Public Administration; Education; Journalism and Mass Communication; Law; and Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Drake has an enrollment of just under 3,000 undergraduate students.
Drake students gain an education that blends a foundation in the liberal arts and sciences with outstanding professional programs. That unique combination spells success: Ninety-five percent of Drake graduates over the past five years found professional employment or entered graduate schools after earning their degrees. Drake's mission is to provide an exceptional learning environment that prepares students for meaningful personal lives, professional accomplishments, and responsible global citizenship. - Drake freshman reserve guard Chris Bryant has been named the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week after averaging 23.5 points, while playing an average of 23 minutes in two games last week.
- Drake freshman guard Lindsay Whorton has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week.
- Drake running back Scott Phaydavong has earned third team NCAA I-AA All-American honors by The Associated Press.
- The Drake softball team has earned a No. 13 ranking in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I National Academic Rankings based on cumulative team grade-point averages submitted by NFCA member head coaches for the 2003-04 academic year.
- Drake senior defender Adam Zenor has been named a repeat selection to the second team of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Scholar All-America men’s soccer team.
- Drake senior defender Libby Willrich has been named a first-team selection to the ESPN Academic All-America women’s soccer team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, while junior midfielder Kristin Underwood was a second-team selection.
