George Washington University Athletics

The George Washington University is a dynamic institution located in the heart of Washington, D.C. Founded in 1821 and chartered by the United States Congress, GW is the largest institution of higher education in the nation's capital where more than 22,000 students attend. The University continues to generate creative energy, breaking down the boundaries between disciplines and the divide between academia and the world at large.

George Washington has nine major schools, offering hundreds of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. Many of these plug into the extraordinary world of Washington the political, policy, and research centers that move our country and the world.

Recent Highlights:

  • George Washington women's swimmer Maggie Moss has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference has announced. Moss set a new Colonials record in the 200-yd backstroke with a time of 2:04.79 on Saturday, December 7.

  • In March of 2002, George Washington senior Devin McCalla won the all-around title while leading GW to their fifth consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship. GW finished with a score of 196.375, Massachusetts was second with a score of 193.950, followed by Rhode Island (192.325) and Temple (192.275).

  • On May 25, 2002, Jake Wald’s two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth powered the Colonials (42-21) to the Atlantic 10 Championship title with a 6-4 win in the final game against the No. 19 University of Richmond Spiders.
