Hampden-Sydney College Athletics
Hampden-Sydney
College is a four-year traditional liberal arts college for men. Its
660-acre campus is in southside Virginia, 60 miles southwest of Richmond.
Since 1776 Hampden-Sydney has sustained its mission "to form good
men and good citizens in an atmosphere of sound learning." Ranked
among the country's top liberal arts institutions, the College continues
to live up to its historical promise. Among its alumni are one U.S.
President, thirteen Senators, and many Congressmen, state representatives,
doctors, attorneys, ministers, educators, and leaders in business and
industry (nearly one alumnus in ten is president, owner, or CEO of a
company).
Hampden-Sydney College offers a variety of opportunities for students
who wish to study abroad for a semester or a full year. H-SC approves
over 100 foreign study programs in 25 countries. The courses are varied
and allow you to earn credit hours that apply to your graduation requirements.
The Office of International Studies has a variety of catalogs, brochures,
and application materials, or you can do your own research on some of
the web links provided. Additionally, Hampden-Sydney offers an Honors
Program. The Honors Program is designed specifically for the student
who gives evidence of intellectual curiosity, independence of thought,
excitement in learning, appreciation of knowledge -- for the young man
who sparks the enthusiasm of fellow students and challenges the best
in his teachers.
Academic majors offered include Biology, Chemistry, Classics, Economics,
English, Fine Arts, History, Humanities, Mathematics and Computer Science,
Modern Languages, Philosophy, Physics and Astronomy, Political Science,
Pre-Business, Pre-Engineering, Pre-Law, and Pre-Medicine.
The athletic teams at Hampden-Sydney College compete in the NCAA Division
III Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Recent Highlights:
- Hampden-Sydney College preseason All-American guard Jeff Monroe
has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the
Week after leading the Tigers to victories over Longwood University
and Guilford College.
- Three members of the Hampden-Sydney College football team were
selected to the 26th Annual College Sports Information Directors Division
III All-America team. Seniors Lee Bailey and Conrad Singh were named
to the first team, while junior CW Clemmons was a third team honoree.
- Hampden-Sydney College football players Conrad Singh and CW Clemmons
have earned All-America honors for the 2003 season. Singh scored American
Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Don Hansen's Football Gazette
First Team honors, while Clemmons was named to the Football Gazette
Third Team.
- Hampden-Sydney College's lacrosse team was picked 12th in the Lacrosse
Magazine top-20 preseason poll. The Tigers garner the ranking after
finishing the 2003 season at 12-3 overall and as NCAA quarter finalists.
- Three members of the Hampden-Sydney College soccer team were chosen
for the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division
All-State teams. Freshman forward Marcus Jackson and junior defender
Bobby Hillmann earned first team accolades, while senior forward Pat
Whitehead was a second team pick.
- Hampden-Sydney freshman tennis player Patrick Gee was named the
Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year and
earned Second Team All-ODAC honors at No. 1 singles this season. Gee
becomes the first Tiger tennis player to earn rookie of the year honors.
